The primary purpose of the Grandchildren’s Fund for a Fossil Fuel Free Future initiative is to bring lawsuits against the fossil fuel profiteers for damages to the health and welfare of today’s and tomorrow’s youth and to administer anticipated settlement monies for their benefit.
Its secondary purpose is to establish and maintain a data bank repository of scientific and legal information to be made available as a Climate Crisis Lawsuit Kit for cities, counties and others to expedite bringing similar lawsuits, both in the United States and in other countries.
This website is intended to introduce the Grandchildren’s Fund for a Fossil Fuel Free Future (G5F for short) to the public so that its purpose may become widely known and its progress can be followed and supported.
The G5F initiative cannot happen overnight and it cannot happen without massive social support, both in terms of public awareness of the critical urgency of its life saving mission and in terms of the ongoing financial support needed to succeed.
Accordingly, the G5F plans an international series of Climate Aid and Youth Aid concerts to raise climate catastrophe consciousness and emergency response funds. Building upon the spirit of the Live Aid concerts to assist with famine relief in Ethiopia in 1985 and the Farm Aid concerts that began the same year and have continued ever since to help family farms survive, the Climate Aid and Youth Aid concerts will be hosted in major cities and venues around the world on an ongoing, continuous basis.
Prior to initiating legal action, the G5F initiative’s immediate fundraising needs are as follows (in chronological order):
- Legal fees for 501(c)(3) status for Grandchildren’s Fund for a Fossil Fuel Free
Future – $8000
- Legal fees for 501(c)(3) status for Climate Aid and Youth Aid – $16000
- Open a headquarters office – $5000
- Staff (one office manager) the headquarters office for the first six months – $14400
- Staff (one clerical, one research intern) the headquarters office for the first six
months – $24000
Lastly, a personal appeal from me, Nelson Bonner, Founder and President of the Grandchildren’s Fund for a Fossil Fuel Free Future.
“I cannot stress enough the critical urgency of the climate catastrophe that is upon us. Whatever the daily activities and routines that you and your loved ones currently might enjoy, it is only a matter of time before they will become grimly limited – maybe 10 years, maybe 5, maybe less. (For information about the frightening, actual urgency of the situation, please refer to Bill McKibben’s Winning Slowly Is the Same as Losing and Alex Steffen’s On Climate, Speed is Everything.)
“The sooner we can raise the funds listed above, the sooner we can begin to raise the climate catastrophe consciousness and emergency response funds necessary to support the G5F legal challenges that have the actual potential to make a life saving difference for the children and grandchildren of our country and the whole planet.”
